RF-Welded Lighting Balloons for Film & Television Production

Designed and manufactured reusable RF-welded lighting balloons that produce bright, evenly diffused illumination for productions where cranes and traditional lighting rigs can't be positioned.

The Challenge

Conventional lighting balloons are built with stitched seams and seam tape, which limits their strength, durability, and helium retention over repeated use. Productions also frequently need powerful, evenly distributed light in locations where cranes and traditional lighting equipment cannot be staged — backyards, pool scenes, remote locations, and confined sets.

Our Solution

SaintX designed and manufactures reusable lighting balloons with 100% RF-welded construction, eliminating stitched seams entirely for greater strength, durability, and helium retention. An engineered internal tension structure distributes wind loads throughout the entire balloon rather than concentrating stress at individual corners and connection points, producing bright, diffuse light that can simulate natural sunlight.

Results & Outcomes

  • 100% RF-welded construction replaces stitched seams and seam tape
  • Engineered internal tension structure distributes wind loads across the entire balloon
  • Reusable design with enhanced helium retention over repeated deployments
  • Deploys where cranes and traditional lighting rigs cannot be positioned
  • Supported major productions including Rebel Moon, Fire Country, and Snoop Dogg's Monday Night Football opening sequence

Lighting Balloons On Set and On the Floor

Photographed on location and in the shop — deployed on a crane over a hillside production, staged for an overnight shoot, in fabrication, and up close on the RF-welded shell.

/Staged low over a support truck for an overnight setup — bright, even illumination without a crane or traditional rig.
/Inside the shell: the engineered internal tension structure that spreads wind load across the whole balloon instead of concentrating it at the corners.
